How do you design a luggage system using new technologies?
This project in cooperation with Porsche Design on the topic of Porsche Design 2025 - Future Classics deals with business travel. Taking the time horizon into account, a hand luggage concept was developed that meets the needs of business travelers. In developing it, technological and social trends were considered, leading to a functional, simple, yet clever design that corresponds to the brand.
Bachelor thesis 2019 / cooperation: Porsche Design

In order to get a good overview of what people, especially business travelers, expect from a piece of luggage, appropriate research and interviews were carried out.
Many business travelers travel several times a month or even weekly.
they go through the same procedures over and over again – especially when travelling by plane, this can quickly lead to negative
But even for the average air traveler, the journey can be
a very strenuous process.
Therefore, the luggage should not be an additional burden. Instead, it should have a place
as a companion .
THE ANALYSIS

The idea generation is interspersed with formal and functional questions and compromises.
To increase convenience when traveling, it is essential to keep luggage as compact as possible. Since around 80 percent of business trips only last between one and three days, a smaller packing volume is appropriate. However, the target group expects multifunctionality - think of laptops and other work documents that have to be transported to customer meetings, for example. This is why a 2-in-1 system is used.
A smaller business bag is integrated into the hand luggage trolley and can be removed if necessary. This circumvents airline regulations that prohibit the carrying of multiple pieces of hand luggage or only allow it for an additional charge.
THE IDEA

THE DESIGN
Weight saving is an extremely relevant aspect in the area of luggage. This project looked for a way to break new ground using currently unconventional manufacturing methods .
Inspired by a leaf made up of complex structures and covered with a thin membrane, the technology of generative design was adopted. In combination with additive manufacturing methods , it is possible to use material only where it is really needed, thus saving weight.
The sprung tires ensure perfect adaptation to different surfaces. This makes maneuvering on cobblestones or similar, which is often associated with a certain amount of noise, an acceptable challenge.
A multitude of small features ultimately make the trolley an asset for every trip.
