VÖSLAUER SPORTY
How can a beverage crate gain valuable additional benefits?
Limited time, limited space, but a desire for balance through exercise?
Vöslauer Sporty is a multifunctional workout aid for home use. By adding to the 8x1L split crate, it creates a multitude of exercise possibilities in a very compact space.
This concept is our response to the design competition organized by Vöslauer Mineral Water and the Vienna Design Week on the theme of "Multifunctional Design Object" – a multifunctional, sustainable, and appealing use of the Vöslauer glass multipurpose crate for living, working, and urban transport.

Vöslauer represents well-being and a vital lifestyle. In addition to healthy nutrition and relaxation, sports and exercise naturally play a significant role in promoting a sense of well-being.
Due to acute time constraints, the increasing overlap between personal and work life, and the resulting individual needs, physical activity is increasingly shifting from the gym into the home, a trend that reached new heights especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In urban areas, living space is becoming more limited, leaving little room for exercise equipment. This situation calls for creative approaches and solutions to create a flexible, space-saving, and versatile workout option.
THE IDEA
In the further ideation process, various training tools and workout methods were analyzed and tested to derive movement patterns and enable versatile use.
Since bodyweight exercises are very popular, we saw the greatest potential for support in this area. Therefore, the focus is on ergonomic grip options and stepping surfaces, stabilizing the crate, and simple, flexible usage.
THE PROCESS
Vöslauer Sporty offers the opportunity to use the Vöslauer 8x1L split crate as support for full-body workouts. With multiple grip options and a seat, step, or support surface, combined with the existing weight and grip possibilities of the crate, countless ways are created for effective cardio and muscle training.
THE POSSIBILITIES
A Sporty pair consists of two identical parts that are connected through a fastening mechanism, distributing the load evenly across the crate. Additional stability is provided by a connection to the bottles, which both absorb the load and protect them from vibrations and movement.
Production can be carried out using recycled PET bottles. The mirrored parts help minimize tooling costs.
