How can material properties be used in the conceptualization of new product ideas?

Bamboo is a sustainable and versatile raw material with exciting mechanical properties. Through intensive research into this material and the search for meaningful uses of its qualities, a charming, innovative and puristic baby cradle concept was created that meets the needs of young parents today.

Bamboo is a material with many good properties - sustainability due to rapid regrowth, easy processing and versatile applications due to its mechanical characteristics. Unfortunately, it is still used relatively little.

The aim was to choose an object whose functionality would benefit from the material properties. We finally found this match in the area of baby cradles.

THE IDEA

Through sketches and 3D printed models, we tried to find a form that creates a comfortable novel rocking motion while promising a purist contemporary aesthetic.

THE CONCRETIZATION

A holistic approach is necessary to create a coherent concept. In addition to using the flexible properties of bamboo, we wanted to keep the construction as simple as possible. The dimensions are such that the cradle does not take up too much space and can be transported from room to room without any problems. The individual parts can be packed compactly and are therefore perfect for postal delivery and e-commerce .
